The Three Musketeers : Movie Review

3

Its been really long time since I went to a movie theater. Nothing after Harry Potter and DH. As there were no noticeable movies in last few months, when I decided not to expect much from The Three Musketeers. And I wasThe Three Musketeers surprised. First reaction when after coming  out of theater was “Well, that was cool”.

The Three Musketeers (IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1509767/)

Director: Paul W.S. Anderson

Starring: Logan LermanMatthew MacfadyenRay Stevenson,Luke EvansMilla Jovovich and Orlando Bloom.

(Briefest) Summary: (No Spoilers)

The three musketeers, after having their time of glory, are now living like other common people. But the new kid, who wants to be a Musketeer himself, bring action back in their lives. Some villains (guess who) cook a plot to turn over the kingdom and get rid of teenage amateur King. And it comes down to the Three (four, actually) musketeers to stop this from happening.

The movie is in 3D. Except for few scenes, 3D was (literally) a headache. There is not a single boring moment, and things keep happening. Movie keeps its constant pace and neither slows down nor speeds up suddenly. Use of bright vivid colors is awesome. I was getting bored with dark dull colors so far. But you will be amazed by colors Orlando Bloom wears and manages to look regal all the time. 😉 Director and writers have done a good job of creating a simple but interesting story (plus leaving a loose end for possibility of a sequel). Some of the scenes were extraordinary.

I would suggest watching this movie in theater but preferably NOT in 3D. I don’t know if it was just me, but 3D does not show the colors as good as normal. I am sure you will not regret watching the four musketeers in action 😉

Cheers.

The Hangover Part II : A must watch comedy

5

The Wolfpack is back!! And funnier!! Do you think you laughed your a** off at The Hangover(2009) last time? Wait till you see the Part II. I had not laughed this hard for a movie in long time. After a long time, I heard everyone in a movie theater making ‘Whoa’, ‘Ooh’, ‘Eww’, ‘What the..’ , ‘sh**’ etc sounds in unison!!!

Summary of story (NO Spoilers): The self tooth plucker(see The Hangover Part I for details) i.e. Mr. Dentist is getting married in Thailand. As usual the wolfpack(with a new addition to group) decides to do a simple bachelor party one the beach (simple= just sitting around fire drinking beer and Alan roasting marshmallows 😆 ). They wake up in Bangkok to find a lot of surprises. Rest of the plot is exactly same as part one but funnier with little less twists.

Whenever there is a sequel, there comes comparison. In my opinion, The Hangover Part II has more comedy than the Part I. You can’t help but laugh. Excellent timing of punch delivery combined with excellent acting by everyone. Only thumbs down thing about this movie is that in Part I, characters had a lot of things to do, a lot of twists as compared to Part II. But believe me, you will not regret watching this movie. There are some really nasty :O surprises for the audience (not everyone) 😉 . And make sure you sit through credits, you will know why if you have seen Part I 😛 .

P.S. If you have not seen the first The Hangover (released in 2009) yet :O , WATCH IT BEFORE WATCHING PART II. There is really no connection between two movies, but it will help you get hang of things faster.

Movie Review: Fast Five

1

One word is enough to comment on this movie: Entertainer!! Full paisa vasool!!
If you love Fast and Furious franchise, then you must watch this one….

Addition of The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) gives this series of movies a new turn. Fast five is not the best of all films in this series(as many people seem to claim, IMO, best one so far is 4 th movie), but it is better than most of them. It has usual comic touch, excellent locations (Rio de Janeiro, my new favorite), fast cars, a little drama and hell lot of action.

Director Justin Lin and Screen-Writer Chris Morgan has done good job this time. I am not going to give summary of movie as there not much to tell about this action flick. But it would be a Paisa Vasool deal if you decide to watch it.

P.S. Are you one of the people who run away from theater as soon as it starts showing credits at end? Well, for this movie, I suggest you wait for a while… there is a surprise at the end of movie… it comes after a few names on credits list…. so don’t miss it…

Rio – Movie Review

8

Colorful, funny, light and beautiful… Rio is certainly a treat for your eyes… After suffering blows after blows, series of disappointments and torture sessions (of watching Drive Angry, Alien Invasion, Sucker punch etc) in theaters, I finally watched a movie which washed all my sins(of watching movies I mentioned above) away…

Directed by: Carlos Saldanha.
Starring the voices of: Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez, Jake T. Austin, Tracy Morgan, Jemaine Clement, Leslie Mann, will.i.am, and Jamie Foxx.

Rio is story of a bird, a Spix’s Macaw, last male of its kind, named Blue by its owner. Blue is taken to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, one of most beautiful places in world (in my opinion) to join the last female Spix’s Macaw in the world, named Jewel. They get kidnapped by local smugglers and chained to each other. The story turns more colorful after this incident as Blue and Jewel escape, take help of other birds. They keep trying to shake off the villain bird, Nigel, who is in constant pursuit helped by a monkey gang.

So what happens next? Do Blue and Jewel get together? How do they un-chain themselves? You should watch the movie to find out.

If you have kids, please take them to see this movie. I am sure they will love it. And it is enjoyable by all ages, not just kids. Also watch it in 3D for sure.

P.S.> Though its a animated movie, it certainly made me feel like going to Rio-de-Janeiro… I have added it to my wish-list of places to visit 🙂 . Hopefully, someday, I will visit that beach 🙂 🙂

Cheers,
Sudarshan

Ghajini Movie Review

16

Today I went for Ghajini, First Day First Show. (New theater at my hometown, AC, Rs. 50 each 😀 )

Many days ago, I had decided against watching movie Ghajini. But somehow my brother managed to convince me for this movie.

I don’t deny I wasn’t curious about the film, but still I had sensed the movie type. And I was not wrong.

Here is my rating and summary:

Rating: Two and Half stars (2.5)

Summary: Nothing special in story, slow, some typical Hindi/South movie type incidents, overdose of Aamir Khan, No hot/bold/bed scene 😀 (not even a decent hug) and Unexpectedly predictable ending.

Now, if you ask,”How was the movie?”, then I will say, “Ummm, not that bad, lets say its worth watching one time (if you can get cheap 9 AM show tickets then its better)”.

Now again, is it a bad movie? No! Not at all!! Aamir Khan looks great & acts well, there is good amount of violence, a few good laughs and two nice songs. Interesting thing is, the new face, Asin, has acted very well and she looks pretty nice. Even scope for Asin was very limited as this is an Only Aamir Khaan movie but still she leaves footprints everywhere.

Plot summary with no spoilers:Aamir Khan

Sanjay (Aamir Khan) is a short term memory loss patient and some incident in past has left him with a scar on head and no memory of who did it. But, he remembers a few things and has written them on his 8 abs pack body. He is violent and vulnerable and hits/kills many people. Actually he is a very successful businessman himself (or say ‘was a businessman’ 😀 ). So there is a story behind this wounded man’s wounds and it unravels so slowly that we forget the first half when the second half comes before us fully. He is trying to find and kill a man named Ghajini who is killer of his girlfriend, Kalpana (Asin).

I can summarize the movie in one line, “the story of Sanjay-Kalpana” and “how Sanjay finds the killer and avenges his Kalpana’s death”. That’s it.

No complexions in plot, not twists and turns.

A note: Please do not go for this movie with children. Even though there is very less blood and dirty fights, they are terrifying in ways. So keep children at home or simply miss the movie.

This movie is going to be superhit just for Aamir Khaan and Asin (and definitely not because of its story 😛 )

Cheers

P.S> I tried searching “Ghajini Movie stills, wallpapers, Aamir Khan Ghajini, etc on Google Image search and to my astonishment, I found very less or say only 2-3 pictures from movie. There were  just Aamir Khan pics or Original Ghajini movie stills. Why this is so? Or its just me?

Rock On !!! It simplly superb : Movie Review

Rock On!!!

Must Watch… In Theater!!

Yes. Its a must watch movie. And preferably in theater if you like to enjoy music. If you re in Pune, try Adlabs Gold.
After Taare Zameen Par, this is the first Hindi movie I watched and I don’t feel like criticizing on anything. Even no movie is perfect in all senses, this is one which we can add to exception list.

I will keep the review simple.

Rock On, is a story of friends, who form a band named Magik. The story is only about them and it didn’t loose focus till the very end. They enjoy life, they split and somehow they reunite. Sounds old formula? Well, it is. But as I already said, add this movie to exceptions. Magic of movie is its music. The climax of movie is a song, a long one, and I must say, its awesome.

Rock On!!!

Rock On!!!

Movie keeps you on your seat from start and it not at all get boring even for a minute. Or so I did feel.
I can do with a good long description but I don’t want to spoil the fun of people who haven’t seen it.

The best thing about Rock On is its simplicity. Story don’t have too much turns and bends and twists. Its straight and predictable (only if you have that annoying habit). It has convincing and NO OMG WTF type turns. Its more like Dil Chahta Hai. May be this one is going to be another Dil Chahta Hai, i.e. all time favorite.

Okay. May be few people can find it not that interesting as I did (most probably people who think like pro critics), but for sure its fully enjoyable experience.

Voice of Farhan Akhtar is cool. It different!!!

I give this movie FULL marks.

and well earned 4 and Half stars.

Rock On!!

Movie Review: Hancock

27

Just watched hancock at a theater near my home 😀 And let me start review with rating. My rating is **. Yes, its two star!!

Hancock Movie Still

Hancock Movie Still

There is nothng special about this movie and its just Will Smith all over. Its not a boring movie but its not must watch type. So if you have no time to spare then don’t worry and watch this later on DvD.
There is no scope for acting as this is an action film. There are few drawbacks and mistakes.

Story: (No Spoilers):
Hancock, a superhero, always drunk, everyone calls him drunkard and he keeps getting angry on them. He catches criminals but this costs his city crores. He keeps destroying everything around him wherever he goes. He saves life of a man who tries to make him a good man. And then many things happen and the “only” twist in whole story comes after interval. Finish. This is max I can write about story.

If you want my opinion, don’t waste more than 40-50 bucks on movie.

Cheers

P.S> Thanks to all who replied on my previous post. I will reply comments as soon as possible. Using net-cafe restricts many things actually. Have a nice day. 🙂

Sarkar Raj : Movie Review

20

I watched Sarkar Raj at Gold Adlabs Pune. And please notice that we had our tickets booked last Monday to catch the show. Well Gold Adlabs is worth the trouble because of its quality.

Now, the Movie. First thing, if you haven’t seen the Sarkar (first movie) then go watch it now. As a sequel, Sarkar Raj is no match to its prequel. As a standalone film, its good!! Second thing is I can’t help but compare the two movies. So bear it!! 😛
Few lines for people who have no idea about what Sarkar is about:
“Sarkar is a person who is not a mafia(but has many qualities of him), not a politician (but much politics is under his control) and not a social worker(but all people love him coz he helps people in his own style.. mostly killing).” As the famous dialog of film say, ” Sarkar is not a man, he a concept” (Sorry I am bad at translation of strong Hindi to English). Important thing is that “Sarkar” do only good things for Maharashtra. He want to see his state to take leaps of progress.
A foreign company approaches Maharashtra with a Electricity Company Project which needs much space(land). The movie starts with this and goes on, but remains focused on Sarkar and his life.

Now I should tell you if I liked film or not! Actually I am not sure about it. I liked the film because it has good actors and good dialogs. And I disliked film for its repeated and degraded soundtrack and Aishwarya. There was no need for Aishwarya. What an useless character who does nothing but listen to other men. Differences between Sarkar and Sarkar Raj are:

  • Background Music: In Sarkar first movie, music is helps greatly to the subject of movie where in Sarkar Raj it awfully irritates sometimes.
  • Camera and Cinematography: I don’t know whats RGV’s problem with simple frame. At the second half, sometimes all I was able to see was character’s face at corner of screen. Provided Adlabs big screen, it wasn’t much fun to find the face. (Thank god I was not in Imax)
  • Storyline:In Sarkar first movie , lot of things happen, slowly, but they do happen. And in Sarkar Raj, some stuff happens but its not enough for a movie. Story is more stretched than it was originally. Especially at end, I would have loved to watch Amitabh actually finding out the politics behind events happened rather than hearing it from him. He just tells things to Aishwarya who sits and cries. It would have been much better end if we had seen it in process of happenings.
  • Dialogs: Now, here I am not going to say a word against Sarkar Raj. Both movies have great dialogs and some deserve applause.

Overall, after pointing out bad things, I have some good points for film too. Even I can’t say I liked the film much, I suggest people to watch it if you can. Its a good piece of Ram Gopal Verma’s direction. Abhishek Bachchan (my favorite) has performed his best in this movie. He completely fits in the Sarkar’s personality and looks like perfect successor to his father(in movie) i.e. previous Sarkar. I liked the way he spoke about Maharashtra( I know its just a movie but I love when people say inspiring things about my country, my land).

Ohh and a marked-to-write-thing: Why the hell Aishwarya has to put too much of Lip-gloss? (word theft from Ruhi’s blog 😀 ) It distracted me twice from Abhishek’s dialogs. I got bored of it in instant as I hate fake beauty(not Aishwarya, in general. Well ok, I don’t like her too) and cosmetics.

I rate this movie 6/10.

Or say *** out of *****.

Cheers
Suda
