What is RSS And Feeds?

Hi folks. I made this page specially for those who don’t have not any clue about what is RSS and why it is used for!!

Now have a look at these sites. And if you are bored with visiting sites then just continue reading, I will explain it in short for you.

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication (whatever you prefer).

The purpose of a feed is to provide summary of information from a website to a subscribed user.

Lets take an example. Suppose you are regular reader of a blog and lazy enough to maintain bookmarks and check the sites regularly. Then RSS FEED is a solution for you. Just subscribe the feed of blog in your RSS READER( see my post on Google Reader). Then you will be updated in your reader about the new entry or new content. Every time new content is posted there, you will get it updated in your reader. Simple!!! All you need is to check on your reader and you will save much time.

Keep in mind that the host site(the site you have feed of) decides what to provide in the feed. Some sites send all the updates(everything that is updated) and some just update the summary and send you links( and wait for you to visit their site).

Now an important question…….Where to find and How to identify a RSS FEED? Keep your eyes open for this128px-feed-icon.jpg . You will find it on nearly every site that is updated quite frequently.

Ask me if you are still in dark about this.
