Movie: Schindler’s List

2

Movie: Schindler’s List
Year: 1993
Director: Steven Spielberg
Stars: Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Kingsley
IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108052/

The movie Schindler’s List is one of the great movies which can be found on every ‘must see’ list on the internet. And I do agree with it. If you are a movies fan, or you just like to watch good movies occasionally, then you should surely watch Schindler’s List.

This movie is a true story of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman, who initially only cared about making money, and later saved nearly 1100 Jews from being killed or tortured till death during World War II.

The plot of movie is straightforward and sticks to the true story. Oskar Schindler owned a factory where he used to have Jewish people as labors. He saw the way Jews were treated by Nazis and started helping them. His factory became a refuge for Jews. He spent all money he can to protect his factory and the people who worked there. Finally he managed to move nearly 1100 Jews to Brněnec (German: Brünnlitz) (currently in Czech Republic) and save them till the war was over.

The actor Liam Neeson plays role of Oskar Schindler and Ben Kingsley plays Oskar’s  right hand and accountant Itzhak Stern. Both are great actors and these characters in movie can be counted as one of the best roles of their life. Director Steven Spielberg has done a great job and every actor has been at his best.

The movie has a lot of scenes where horrifying treatment of Jews is shown. I recommend not to watch this movie with kids.

I am making my own list of Must Watch movies and this movie is surely on the list.

Cheers.

Neil Simon’s the odd couple II

3

I was just surfing channels on tv and found this movie ‘Neil Simon’s the odd couple II’ was being aired on AXN. Just out of curiosity, I kept watching. And ended up watching the whole movie. At some jokes, I laughed so hard, I don’t remember laughing like that in a long time. Not since last year when we were watching ‘The Hangover’.
Though the movie is simple, it surely makes you laugh. Now I am gonna get first movie of this series.
Tomorrow I am going to watch ‘Back to future 1, 2 & 3’.

Cheers.
Sudarshan.

My top 3 (or more) Marathi and Hindi movies of all time…

11

Picking up tag from DI and Reema.

Here are some of my all time favorite movies. This list is brief one. I will write a separate post for English movies. 🙂

Marathi Movies:

1. Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi (अशी ही बनवा बनवी)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0267277/

Some stills from the movie: http://www.marathimirchi.com/marathi/categories.php?cat_id=24

Story about four bachelors who need a place to live and so are forced to show themselves as married couples, a condition set by the landlady, two of them disguise as wives of other two. Best Marathi comedy movie so far. Stars Sachin Pilgaonkar, Lakshmikant Berde and Ashok Saraf. No movie can reach heights of this one in Marathi minds (or so I think) 🙂

2. Natrang (नटरंग)

This is a story of a poor guy who starts a theater troupe (locally known as Tamasha) and plays the role of Nachya. Based on book with same title from well-known writer Anand Yadav.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1590129/

3. Matichya Chuli (मातीच्या चुली)

A quote from director of movie Mahesh Manjarekar:

”The movie centers on a traditional Maharashtrian household and has been shot in Pune. It is based on the age-old premise of the mother-in-law/daughter-in-law tussles; it is a series of happenings in a family that each one of us can identify with. It says a lot without hard selling or aggressiveness…as you laugh, you realise your eyes have moistened because of a very subtle message and simple everyday emotions”.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0814209/

4. Harishchandrachi Factory (हरिश्चंद्राची फॅक्टरी, “Harishchandra’s Factory”)

If you are a true Indian movie fan, you will know who Dadasaheb Phalke is (Father of Indian cinema). The film is the story about the beginning of the Indian film industry, set in 1913. In September 2009, it was selected as India’s official entry to Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film Category, making it the second film, after Shwaas (2004), in Marathi cinema to receive this honor.

Other notable Marathi movies:

2. Sholay

“अरे ओ सांबा , कितने आदमी थे?”, “ये हाथ हमको दे दे ठाकूर ….”, “तुम्हारा नाम क्या है बसंती?” ……….. One of the most popular films in Indian history. Again, if you have not seen this one, really SHAME on you 😀

3. Rang De Basanti

A different kind of movie. A must watch. Great direction, music, acting everything.

Making a quick plan for movie and entertainment sites are blocked in office?

Or you are too lazy to find the newspaper and look up the movie list?

Or you simply have no idea where to find a list of showtimes?

Well, thats easy!! Use Google!!!

Step 1: Go to http://www.google.com/movies

Google will (in most cases) automatically detect your city and show something like this:

Change the location if necessary using the location box on the left.

Thats all!!!

This list contains most of the theaters in your city.

There are many other features also. For example:

If you click on the movie name, it will show the movie details page like this:

It will also show the Movie Reviews and Ratings if abvailable:

And if you have not decided on which movie to watch then click on the ‘Movies’ link in the left sidebar. It will show you the list of movies available in your city. There are categories too.

If available, you can also see the trailer for the movie.

***********************

From many days, I have given up reading and started watching movies instead. Till now I have watched around 30 movies in last month or so (not in theaters of course). Suggest me some movies. I will publish my own list soon.

Rock On !!! It simplly superb : Movie Review

19

Rock On!!!

Must Watch… In Theater!!

Yes. Its a must watch movie. And preferably in theater if you like to enjoy music. If you re in Pune, try Adlabs Gold.
After Taare Zameen Par, this is the first Hindi movie I watched and I don’t feel like criticizing on anything. Even no movie is perfect in all senses, this is one which we can add to exception list.

I will keep the review simple.

Rock On, is a story of friends, who form a band named Magik. The story is only about them and it didn’t loose focus till the very end. They enjoy life, they split and somehow they reunite. Sounds old formula? Well, it is. But as I already said, add this movie to exceptions. Magic of movie is its music. The climax of movie is a song, a long one, and I must say, its awesome.

Rock On!!!

Rock On!!!

Movie keeps you on your seat from start and it not at all get boring even for a minute. Or so I did feel.
I can do with a good long description but I don’t want to spoil the fun of people who haven’t seen it.

The best thing about Rock On is its simplicity. Story don’t have too much turns and bends and twists. Its straight and predictable (only if you have that annoying habit). It has convincing and NO OMG WTF type turns. Its more like Dil Chahta Hai. May be this one is going to be another Dil Chahta Hai, i.e. all time favorite.

Okay. May be few people can find it not that interesting as I did (most probably people who think like pro critics), but for sure its fully enjoyable experience.

Voice of Farhan Akhtar is cool. It different!!!

I give this movie FULL marks.

and well earned 4 and Half stars.

Rock On!!

Movie Review: Hancock

27

Just watched hancock at a theater near my home 😀 And let me start review with rating. My rating is **. Yes, its two star!!

Hancock Movie Still

Hancock Movie Still

There is nothng special about this movie and its just Will Smith all over. Its not a boring movie but its not must watch type. So if you have no time to spare then don’t worry and watch this later on DvD.
There is no scope for acting as this is an action film. There are few drawbacks and mistakes.

Story: (No Spoilers):
Hancock, a superhero, always drunk, everyone calls him drunkard and he keeps getting angry on them. He catches criminals but this costs his city crores. He keeps destroying everything around him wherever he goes. He saves life of a man who tries to make him a good man. And then many things happen and the “only” twist in whole story comes after interval. Finish. This is max I can write about story.

If you want my opinion, don’t waste more than 40-50 bucks on movie.

Cheers
Suda

P.S> Thanks to all who replied on my previous post. I will reply comments as soon as possible. Using net-cafe restricts many things actually. Have a nice day. 🙂

Krazzy 4 Movie … unforgettable experience … read to find out why ….

12

Krazzy 4 …… just been back from the movie and I must say it feels like we just wasted some money to watch this movie in a theater. Thank god I didn’t see Krazzzzzy 4 in any expensive multiplex!!!

My rating for this movie is One and Half star. The half star is for using National Anthem and also having Diya Mirza in movie. Half star for Hritik’s song (which comes at end to relieve you). Remaining half for all other things. Acting is not as bad as script. But actually there wasn’t much scope for acting.

Krazzy 4

Most amusing thing happened in theater was when SRK’s item song started, the whole theater went silent (simply stunned by poor choreography). No one was bothering to even make a little sound of cheer. The theater which responded to Rajpal Yadav’s jokes was simply ignoring SRK completely. Poor Guy did a really boring song. And one song called Ek Rupiya is completely hopeless. I can’t see why director wanted it in. Overall story of movie is not so interesting and very predictable and unimpressive turns are used. They are not turns actually, if you don’t pay much attention. 😀

Ok now why it was unforgettable experience for me? Read on……
A seat besides me was empty for first ten minutes(approx). And then one guy came and tried to seat on me. I just threw him on his seat. He sat and instantly started bombarding me with questions….
1. How much time passed?
Me: 5 minutes
2. Anything special happened?
Me: No, Nothing yet
3. So I haven’t missed much, have I?
Me: No
4. Heheheeheh (pointing at screen and bobbling up and down in his seat)
Me: oh god!!!
5. (Juhi Chavla appears on screen) Who is this
Me: Juhi Chavla (:-D Yes, I did it)
6. What is she in movie?
Me: psycho….. umm a Doctor
7. And who are these guys?
Me: (Decided to end conversation) They are mental patients and she is their doctor. They have not told much so I know just this much.
8. (innocently, without noticing my irritated tone) But they are in car, so where are they going?
Me: (this guy is impossible) To see the match……….

Just then, some character in movie cast a good joke( I decided it was good because my neighbour was nearlyHritik fallen out of his seat by laughter. movie was a disaster and this guy continually kept dancing in his seat pointing at screen and looking at me.( and I was wondering if I missed something so funny :-P).
Thank god after few minutes story became little serious (according to this guy) and he fell silent.
Finally after movie was over, I decided against my evening plan of having a walk by riverside and headed straight back to home for a strong cup of tea.

Well if you are the one who liked this movie then its not my fault. May be we use different glasses to look at the world.

Cheers.
